Terms and Conditions

If you are a registered Member (“Member”) of the Climate Change Adaptation Community of Practice (“CCACoP”), you are deemed to have read and accepted these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”).Please read the information below before you start to use the CCACoP. The goal of the CCACoP is to be an online resource for researchers, experts, policy-makers, practitioners, and other climate change professionals to manage, store, and share climate change adaptation resources. The Terms below provide a framework to ensure that the Members have a great experience, and feel safe and respected during their interactions with others via the CCACoP.

Scope and purpose of this disclaimer

This disclaimer governs your use of the CCACoP. By using the website located at www.ccadaptation.ca, you agree to the Terms and accept this disclaimer in full. If you disagree with any part of this disclaimer, do not use the CCACoP, as that condition prohibits you from doing so.

CRI reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time, and thus, you should check for changes before proceeding to utilize the services and Content of the CCACoP. By using the CCACoP after changes have been made to this document, you agree to accept those changes, whether or not you have reviewed them.

Rights to information published

Much of the material (“Content”) on the CCACoP is protected by copyright and intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce this Content on your personal website, blog, social network, or any other online resource without the written permission of the Content’s author(s) and/or copyright holder(s).

You may print, copy or download the Content provided always that:

  • The third party responsible for creating the Content is the acknowledged source;
  • All titles credits and URLs are included; and
  • You comply with any legal notice contained in the Content.

Links to other websites

The CCACoP includes links to external websites. These links are provided for your convenience only. CRI is not responsible for the availability or content of these other websites or any products or services available from them.

You should be aware that your use of such other websites may be subject to additional Terms imposed by the owners of those websites. Your dealings with such third parties are between you and the third party, and CRI accepts no liability as a result of you accessing such websites.

Member-generated material

Here, the term "member-generated material" refers to any Content uploaded, posted, emailed, submitted, or otherwise communicated to the CCACoP by the Members. By sharing Content for publication on the CCACoP, you hereby confirm that:

  • It is not offensive or obscene;
  • It is not in any way illegal or infringing upon any law or any person’s rights; and
  • It is either your own work or work clear of third-party copyright. That is, you have obtained permission from the copyright holder(s) to publish their material on the CCACoP.

In relation to any Content which you upload, you grant CRI a non-exclusive royalty free license to include such Content on the CCACoP, so that it can be downloaded by Members and used and exploited as they see fit, subject to them respecting any reasonable legal notice which you may place on such Content.

Discussion forums

The discussion forums (“Forums”) are where Members can share information, seek advice and discuss ideas. As in a real community, Members are asked to respect others and their rights. In order to provide Members with general support and advice in relation to their use of the Forums, and for security and abuse-management reasons, CRI reserves the right to:

  • Access and monitor the Forums and any messages posted in them; and
  • Take whatever steps are necessary to protect the Members, including editing or removing any messages or suspending or discontinuing any Forums.

CRI may not monitor every Forum or the conduct of every Member, however the Coordinator will access the Forums periodically in order to help ensure that Members are adhering to this Forum policy.

The actions and opinions of other members 

CRI encourages the free expression of ideas and opinions as long as they are responsible, free of insult, respectful of others, do not make public accusations related to specific projects, corporations, individuals, or contracts, and conform to the purpose of the CCACoP. The CCACoP discussions are open Forums that reflect the views and experiences of the individual participants and do not represent the opinion or policy of CRI.

The CCACoP is managed by a Coordinator who reserves the right to edit, refuse to post, or remove any information or links, in whole or in part, that does not follow the guidelines below or are in violation of applicable law, without notice to you.

As part of these Terms, you agree to NOT upload, post, email or otherwise send or knowingly receive any Content on the CCACoP which:

  • Is unlawful, illegal, fraudulent, offensive, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, indecent, obscene, defamatory, invasive of another's privacy, or discriminatory whether racially, ethnically, sexually, religiously or otherwise, or which may incite or instruct any person or organization to undertake such activities;
  • Contains viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time bombs or any similar component likely to cause harm;
  • Contains forged headers or manipulated identifiers in order to disguise the origins of any Content;
  • Infringes our legal rights or any other Member, or any other person or organization; or
  • Passes you off as, or in which you impersonate, any other person or entity, misrepresenting yourself and your connection with a third party in any way.

Access and availability  

CRI reserves the right to close a Member account without notice if use of that account appears to breach these Terms, or if attempted communications by the Coordinator remain unanswered. Where an account is closed, the Coordinator may, at their discretion, inform the Member of the reason by email.

CRI reserves the right to withdraw access to all or any part of the CCACoP for periods of time in order to modify Content, scheduled or emergency maintenance and other purposes without notice to you.

Any Content or other data residing on the CCACoP may be deleted, altered, moved or transferred at any time for any reason at the Coordinator’s sole discretion without notice and without liability to you or any third party.

Limited Liability

CRI accepts no responsibility for any loss or harm incurred from the use of the CCACoP or any of its Content.

Registration and use of your data

In order to register as a Member you must have a valid email address. When registering as a Member, you agree to provide accurate, up-to-date and complete information about yourself, as prompted by the CCACoP.

When you successfully register as a Member you will create a password.  You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and shall take all necessary steps to ensure that it is kept secure and not disclosed to any other person.

If you know or suspect that your password has been disclosed to any other person, please change your password immediately. Please note that you are responsible for all activities that occur under your password.


You acknowledge that the CCACoP reserves the right to begin charging for access to www.ccadaptation.ca and to change its fees periodically in its discretion.


The Coordinator may provide the Members with notices regarding the CCACoP by regular email or postings to the CCACoP.

Legal jurisdiction

The federal laws of Canada shall otherwise govern your use of the CCACoP where these Terms are not clear or incomplete, and you hereby agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Canadian Federal and Provincial court system.
